About the Author
Richard Pilbrow first made his mark at Olivier's National Theatre, lighting shows such as the first Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. He revolutionised stage lighting in Britain, designing the system for the new National and setting up Theatre Projects, the first independent lighting and sound design and theatre design consultancy company in the UK, now active internationally. He has been a consultant for theatres and concert halls in over 80 countries.

Information and inspiration

This book helped me make the decision to go for lighing design as a career .... the first half has the info most of us in the industry have picked up on stage but orders it very well, the second has many wonderful anechdotes from his and many others careers. Its the only lighing book I have found that one can enjoy reading again and again.

If you are in lighting you must read this book.

This is the only book on Stage Lighting that I've come across that covers the whole spectrum of the possiblities of lighting. Mr. Pilbrow covers the range of knowledge you must have to be an effective designer -- everything from how to setup your paperwork and reports to the most esoteric of design concepts. My personal favorite couple of lines talks briefly on how you have to think about where to position the light board during rehearsals to either be in the middle of or to get away from the political center of power. There is no other author out there that can speak clearly about the evolution of lighting from oil lamp to Vari-Lite. Basically, living the life of a true designer is all about collecting visuals and techniques that intrigue and excite us and using and reinterpreting those ideas through our own personalities. With Mr. Pilbrow's book, you will never find a more comprehensive single source of those lighting ideas and techniques. Don't read the book because you have to. Read the book because it will make you a better designer.

The best book on theatre lighting anywhere

I bought this last year, and it quickly became one of my favourite books of all time. It's well written, and is packed full of information. But that's only the beginning. Pilbrow has chucked in years of experience and anecdote, not only from his own extensive career, but also from many other excellent designers. Whenever I'm lighting a show, I take this book with me. In a way, it is my own lighting assistant. This is a must, not only for lighting people, but also directors and producers. And that is because this book endevours to emphasise the 'art' of lighting, and not just the craft.
And it's about time.

About the Author
Dave Nichols has been involved in many forms of media both in front and behind the camera since 1978. He has written and produced over 1,200 TV commercials with Shadoe Stevens, Inc., a series of television comedy specials for HBO/Cinemax, and American Top 40 for ABC Watermark. He has produced live events for Jani International and live sports programs for television, created early-learning software for Microsoft, and developed ad campaigns for radio, TV, and feature film trailers for New World Pictures. Dave has been the editor-in-chief of Easyriders and V-Twin motorcycle magazines since 1998 and is currently overseeing ten automotive and motorcycle magazine titles for Paisano Publications, including the new Road Iron custom touring bike title. Nichols was the on-camera host of V-Twin TV, a 26-episode motorcycle-related television series seen on the SPEED channel. He is also the bestselling author of Top Chops, Indian Larry: Chopper Shaman, One Percenter, and One Percenter Code, all published by Motorbooks. He lives in Ashland, Oregon, and Los Angeles and is currently creating TV series and feature film projects with HBO producer Michael Hill.

Since the early 1980s, Michael Lichter has been photographing custom motorcycles, often hanging from the beds of pickup trucks during rainstorms, photographing packs of bikers in places like Daytona Beach and Sturgis, South Dakota for the pages of Easyriders magazine. He has written and photographed a number of books. He lives and works in Boulder, Colorado.

Billy Lane has been involved in the chopper scene since its resurgence in the past decade, and has gained extensive exposure on TV shows such as Monster Garage, and in every major motorcycle enthusiast magazine. In 1995, he founded Choppers Inc., one of America's premier custom motorcycle building companies. Billy is a Miami native who has a mechanical engineering degree from Florida State University. Lane resides in Melbourne, Florida.

Are these reviews padded by the author? This is a pamphlet, not a real book. It has barely more information that the Forex Wiki article. There is nothing for intermediate or advanced readers. It's barely even a beginners guide! No real strategy. A couple primitive diagrams. No candlesticks. Nothing on actual trading, like when to enter/exit or how to predict movement probability. It's not even a decent glossary of terminology. Save your money. Google "forex" , spend 5 minutes reading the first or second page that comes up in the search results and you'll acquire more knowledge about forex that you will by reading the 36 cent a page brochure.

Great guide to Forex trading

I have an interest in forex trading but never really knew where to start with it, this book teaches you all the information you need to know. It goes into information about how to expand in forex trading and teaches you all the strategies and tips that will make you successful in making money this way. It has clear information and is backed up with graphs and illustrations to help you understand the process. I would highly recommend this book if you are interested in learning more about this and as a beginner I found it extremely useful.

A Win 7 Book geared towards the Intermediate / Advanced User

I am so accustomed to using the Missing Manual series by David Pogue for OS upgades and programs Windows 7: The Missing Manual but did not have the patience to wait for the printing of the MM book on Windows 7, so decided to buy and dive into this one instead. It is from the Microsoft Press and written by experts in the field of Windows. Who knows the operating system better than the developers themselves?? That said, it needs to be stated that this book is geared toward a more technical user who actually ENJOYS being technical and likes to tinker. If this is not your cup of tea, go with the Windows 7: The Missing Manual as it will humor you and suit your needs. The Windows Inside Out really delves deeply into customization, security, advanced file management and much more.

This book is labeled for the Intermediate / Advanced and contains a CD with tools, training and the book in e-book form. If this is your first technical book, it might be a bit intimidating. I would suggest the Missing Manual by David Pogue if you can wait for it to come to press or Windows 7 Bible which is really geared to the beginner to intermediate user.

As a technical professional that focuses on Microsoft products, I have read or have access to a number of technical books. Some focus on technical knowledge sharing, other focus on presentation of the information. It is rare that a book comes along that provides both. This book is very readable and not so technical that the new features get lost in terminology or filler paragraphs to create a larger book.

This book is one of those that not only provides excellent information on the new operating system, but makes an excellent reference guide for those times that you need to look up something. It is not a book you will recall everything, but the information is presented in such a way that it makes it easy to recall seeing it mentioned, which makes for quick search to find what you are looking for.

This is THE Win 7 Bible!

I'ver read too many poorly written books by technical specialists who just don't write very well. This book is not one of those. It is well-written, all-encompassing, and provides thorough, understandable, technical help for the novice and the geek alike. The reader can either use this book as a reference or he/she can read it from cover to cover. I did the latter--twice! I just couldn't absorb all the cool and fantastic features in one reading. This is the first time since 1988 that I feel I really have a handle on my OS. If you are running Windows 7 (any version), you cannot do without this manual. It may appear absurd to say that Windows 7 Inside Out can be life-altering, but it can be just that! Geeks and neophytes ought to celebrate.

In this timely CESifo volume, Robert Fenge and Pierre Pestieau examine empirical and theoretical evidence that explains why early retirement has become such a burden for social security systems and suggest pension system reforms that will reverse the trend.

Drawing on evidence from the European Union (with comparisons to other industrialized countries including the United States and Canada), the authors demonstrate that the effective retirement age is influenced by social security regulations (such as a change in eligibility age) and discuss ways of measuring these embedded incentives. Fenge and Pestieau examine the implicit taxes on prolonged working life from normative and political economy perspectives. They discuss optimal payroll tax rates that minimize distortions of labor supply and retirement decisions and consider alternative ways to finance benefits, including consumption and capital income taxation. They discuss why policies are designed to discourage employment among older workers and why reforms to counter this often meet resistance. They demonstrate, contrary to the belief of many European governments, that pushing older workers into retirement does not free jobs for young unemployed workers. They show that the gap between salaries and productivity is an incentive for employers to rid themselves of older workers and argue that governments should not support this behavior by compensating older workers for the difference between severance payments and salaries in early retirement programs.

It's about time for a how-to book on TEACHING ONLINE

Ko and Rossen's paperback on TEACHING ONLINE is small in size and simple to read, but it contains all essential information needed by a teacher or professor who has suddenly found himself or herself thrust into the mushrooming world of online learning. More and more professors are being told that they must produce a computer-based class, and that they must manage that class themselves, but fewer and fewer universities are providing comprehensive training for this totally new technique. TEACHING ONLINE is the book that will save the day for these pressured professors. It will also guide the enthusiastic cybersleuth through teacherly tips about preparing a class, accessing online libraries, controlling unrurely cyberstudents, encouraging coversation, taking tests, and all sorts of other nitty gritty. Only for the noobs

The first 178 pages concern such topics as how to use a computer, the web and a course management system ... and thus isn't particularly helpful if you have even a passing grasp of these matters. The middle section of the book - Teaching in The Online Classroom - is okay, though a much better treatment of teaching is in the venerable McKeachie's Teaching Tips by Wilbert J. McKeachie. If it's online activities you're really interested in, get Ryan Watkins' "75 e-Learning Activities: Making Online Learning Interactive." The last section of the book - New Trends and Opportunities - is little more than uncritical pontification and is probably worth skipping even if you found some utility in the material from the prior sections of the book.

A Great Intro and Overview

Ko and Rossen do an excellent job of laying out a lot of basic concepts if you are involved in any kind of project that involves teaching online.
I have a read a few books dealing with this topic and this one does a better job than any of the others that I have come across in helping the reader to understand the big picture- from getting to know your institutions resources to managing student behavior online. There are a lot of great tips to help the online teacher deal with any number of potential problem areas.
My only complaint would be that some of the technology discussedd is a little bit dated, but it is still useful and I'm sure that will be updated in the next edition.
One other resource for which this book in invaluable is the collection of Web Resources at the end of every chapter that often provide real world examples of the concepts being discussed.

A 1983 publication full of past civilizations, flower essence effects & their uses both phycially & emotionally Must have!!

This book took a lot of research to produce. It covers in detail the effects of the Flower Essences on both the physical body and emotional
states not only for humans, but for animals. There is an excellent glossary of the Esoteric Terms helping more so the Novice Practioners,
or those new to the healing arts understand the many healing techniques that have been hidden from our civilization. Our bodies are programmed to "heal thyself" without the use, in most cases of "Big Pharma" drugs, if only we seek the truth to get well, & maintain a healthy body on all levels. Although this book was published in 1983 it is in rich in knowledge of the Akashic Records, Atlantis, Lemuria civilizations & what has been learned past, present, & future. For any practitioner in the healing arts, all fields this book is rich in helping us learn from the past to cause a "better" future for all of mankind & God's precious animals.
