This book was my point of reference for cracking the interview on Hadoop, Spark and Scala. Best detailed description I've found and I found it very useful for preparing for interviews.

About the Author

ERIC DAVIS is a former U.S. Navy SEAL and decorated veteran of the War on Terror, and has been recognized as one of the premier sniper instructors in the U.S. military.

He is the founder of EricDavis215.com, an online platform that aims to help others recalibrate their intuition on how to live a good life and lead others to do the same. Since 2008, Eric has been repurposing and teaching the performance principles he used and discovered as a SEAL and sniper instructor. Eric lives in southern California with his wife and two of his four children.

The fight for our sons is too important!

So I was wondering after ordering this book how exactly a SEAL was going to be able to transfer that type of lifestyle and that kind of training to the arena of parenting. In the first chapter I have already underlined extensive parts of the author's writing. Here are a few that jump out to me: 1) when your child is age 0-2 it's like the conditioning phase of SEAL training. Well I have 4 kids...one is 6 months old and I have witnessed my wife going through her own personal "Hell Week" but it's lasted MONTHS. The author does an excellent job showing the comparisons between SEAL training and specifically the early stages of a child's life! 2) He writes about Dad's quitting on being a Dad. Not like walking out...nothing that obvious. Just the small things and the times when we all might check out due to being tired or selfish. He calls you out on that but then gently reminds us all that we pick up that failure and we move on because the fight for our sons is too important. I highly recommend this book to any parent!

Very enjoyable read on fatherhood and how to prepare sons for adulthood.

I really enjoyed reading this book -- which is going to make writing a review very difficult. "To-do" or "self-help" books are NOT suppose to be page- turning enjoyable . From the Introduction on you are sucked into the stories, humor, and experiences of this father. Not everyone can be a Navy Seal , but here is a guide to being a Seal father. The author gives plenty of ideas and ways of teaching and connecting with your children that are invaluable and fun! There are a few " don't try this at home" moments but you will recognize them-- plus he gives you alternatives. The important factor is being present in your child's life, guiding and preparing them for life beyond you. It is a big world and negotiations are tricky , preparation is key. Read , follow and enjoy every moment of this book and being a father.

Not Just Raising Men--Raising Parents, Coaches, Educators, and Leaders, too.

I understand why Eric Davis wrote this for men about sons. This book is so much more than that, however. It's not only one of the best parenting books I've ever read, it's a book all educators, coaches, and civic club leaders must read. Even if you don't have kids, you'll love this personal journey filled with motivation, leadership training, and success tactics practiced by Eric and his fellow SEAL instructors.

Not everyone will be able to do the SEAL stuff, but everyone can do this: spend more time building relationships with your kids, refuse to be or allow children around "dream killers," and instill confidence in your children or any child you encounter by believing in and demanding the best from them--and modeling the same.

"Raising Men" made me want to push myself more, not just for my son, but for myself, too.

Identifying specific reasons why students of crime and criminal justice should have an interest in this topic, this text also identifies underlying assumptions, defines key terms, and situates crimes of globalization within the criminological enterprise. The authors also define crimes of globalization and review the literature to date on the topic; review the current forms of crimes of globalization; outline an integrated theory of crimes of globalization; and identify the challenges of controlling the international financial institutions that perpetrate crimes of globalization, including the role of an emerging Global Justice Movement.

The authors of this book have published widely on white collar crime, crimes of states, state-corporate crime and related topics. About the Author

Dawn L. Rothe is an Associate Professor of Criminology at Old Dominion University. She is the author or co-author of six books, over six dozen peer-reviewed articles and book chapters dealing with related topics to crimes of globalization including state-corporate crime, state crime, and the international criminal justice system. Her articles appear in such journals as International Criminal Review, Contemporary Justice, Criminology and Public Policy, Justice Quarterly, Crime, Law and Social Change, and Social Justice as well as in various books. She has been a visiting professor and/or guest lecturer at a number of Universities in Croatia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Belgium. In 2008, she received the Critical Criminologists of the Year Award of the Division on Critical Criminology of the American Society of Criminology and in 2010 she was the recipient of the White-Collar Crime Research Consortium Young Scholar of the Year award.

David O. Friedrichs is Distinguished Professor of Sociology/Criminal Justice at the University of Scranton. He has published several books as well over 130 book chapters, articles, encyclopaedia entries, proceedings papers, and essays on topics such as the legitimation of legal order, radical criminology, victimology, violence, narrative jurisprudence, postmodernism, and white collar crime. His articles have been published in such journals as Criminology, Justice Quarterly, Crime & Delinquency, Criminal Justice Review, Criminology & Public Policy, Social Research, Social Problems, Qualitative Sociology, Journal of Legal Education, and Teaching Sociology.. He has been a visiting professor or guest lecturer at a number of colleges and Universities, in Europe, South Africa, Israel and Australia, as well as in the United States. In 2005 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Division on Critical Criminology of the American Society of Criminology. He served as President of the White Collar Crime Research Consortium.

MELISSA JOAN HART is an actor/producer/director who made her first national commercial at age four. She currently costars in the ABC Family comedy series Melissa & Joey. She made her first big splash in the title role of Nickelodeon's Clarissa Explains It All. . Both in the United States and abroad, Melissa is perhaps best known for her starring role in the Showtime movie-turned-network series, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. Melissa has appeared on Dancing with the Stars, That 70's Show, and Law and Order: SVU, among others. Her production company, Hartbreak Films, has produced projects including Sabrina, Melissa & Joey, and a number of television movies and feature films.

Melissa explains to the "little people" why she is better...

As a mom of boys myself, I bought this book hoping to relate to Melissa as well as to get some inside scoop into her Hollywood experiences. Well, there was no inside scoop (except how hard-working she is/was) and I was disappointed in the seemingly condescending tone and overall theme of highlighting her accomplishments and high points. I understand the need to point out one's successes in life, but I feel that it needs to be balanced with one's low points in order to be real and relatable to the reader. In my opinion, Melissa came off as a little desperate to sell herself as a "star" with a tendency to bolster her own ego. And her stage "mother" sounds like a nightmare. Despite Melissa's insistence that her mother was nothing like Kris Jenner or Joe Simpson, it's painfully obvious that she was indeed exactly that. I love the popular claim of many child stars, "At four years old, I insisted on being an actor. It was MY idea." Right. When you are old enough to drive yourself and book your own auditions, then we will call it YOUR idea. I was left unsatisfied and feeling kind of sorry for Melissa.

Kind of boring...

I usually love reading celeb books, but this one was hard to get through. While I love the self depreciating styles that say tori spelling or Jenny McCarthy use, Melissa Joan Hart spends most of her time name dropping and she seems to be full of herself. She sees herself as much more of a celebrity than she really is. A few juicy parts with good info, but mostly very boring and tedious.

I tried so hard to like this book

I really wanted to like this book. At first I did. It was interesting to hear of Melissa's start in the business. From there,things quickly went downhill .
First, Melissa takes forever to tell the most tedious stories ever!! (an entire chapter on her husband's football obsession...,details of every party she's ever thrown)
Second, there's nothing normal about her life and the fact that she put this in the title is amusing. She spends most of the book name dropping and talking about things the average person will never do or be able to afford
Another thing...while confidence is good...Melissa makes it clear that she is really an amazing actor. She really likes herself....A LOT.

Unless you're a huge fan,skip this one.

Old school romance :/

It's an old school romance where the characters are very different in age. Same cliches and plots expected from the older romances. The cover just made it feel like it was new , when in fact it is not. I didn't like this book at all

Return to Santa Flores - Classic Iris Johansen

This is a great read. This is a classic Iris Johansen Loveswept novel. The heroine was fun, cute and sassy, and always getting into one scrape or another that the hero has to get her out from. It is a sweet, cute tale about a heroine and hero where the hero wants to take care of the heroine, but she wants to be independent, hoping that it will help the hero notice she is all grown up now. This book links to Iris Johansen's next Loveswept novel "No Red Roses" with the hero from that book being introduced with a big "splash" in "Return to Santa Flores". The only real detractor is the age difference between the hero and heroine, but Iris uses it to her advantage, making the age difference an obstacle the heroine has to get the hero to overcome before they can live happily ever after. Other than the age factor, there are a few things that "date" the story, but don't really get in the way of the fun read.

I loooooove this book. It has heart and passion. It's something that touches you and just makes you feel the female character's issues. It just says that Age doesn'tmatter when it comes to LOVE.... Very inspiring...
