About the Author
Ray Sinnott's varied career, mainly in design and development, began with several major companies including Dupont and John Brown. The main areas covered within these appointments were: Gas Production and Distribution, Nuclear Energy, Elastomers and Textile fibres.

After his career in industry he joined the Chemical Engineering Department, University of Wales Swansea in 1970, specialising in teaching process and plant design, and other engineering practice subjects.

The first edition of Chemical Engineering Design (Coulson and Richardson’s Vol 6) was published in 1983. Subsequent editions have been published at approximately 5 year intervals.

Ray Sinnott retired from full time teaching in 1995 but has maintained close contact with the engineering profession.

Great Catalog for options are available

I found this book be an excellent summary of equipment capacities. There a several tables showing ranges of equipment based on a particular process variable and pro/con tables to aid in your selection. What is in short supply are anything but basic design equations for equipment. This is also true for an old favorite of mine: "Handbook of Separation Techniques for Chemical Engineers" by Philip A. Schweitzer. This textbook is less current, may be more useful for basic design, though more narrow.

My suggestion is to have Schweitzer and Sinnott's book in the design section of your professional library. Be careful with this book because it is paperback.

This book is an excellent book for a Chemical Engineer final year student or Chemical/Process Engineer professional. It outlines the whole spectrum for Process Engineer design, from management skills for a project, preferrable site location, actual design of Process equipment/vessels, etc. This book is definately an execellent buy for a Chemical/Process Engineer.

One of the best motivational books I have ever read.

Charles Capps gives a very clear, concise and workable methodology to using God's word to achieve financial success. He teaches that the shield of faith (Ephesians 6) is a protection placed all around us by the confession of the Word, that protects us from Satan's attacks while at the same time attracting God's blessings. If we confess abundance continually, even in the face of lack, we will, by faith receive God's promises.
Mr. Capps makes it clear in this book that there is no magic to this. We must follow God's system for success, such as giving of tithes and offerings. He warns us not to confuse sound business practices with faith and vice versa. I like one warning he gave to a new couple just turned on to the word of faith movement: "If you can't make it by faith with a job, you certainly won't make it by faith without a job!". This was in reply to the couple just waiting for God's blessing and not taking a job that was offered to the husband that was at a lower rate of pay than he was expecting.
I consider Success Motivation Through The Word to be one of the very best faith books I have ever read and recommend it very highly.

Read the Bible 1st!!! Then read this book with discernment

When reading any book that teaches faith, prosperity, and spiritual gifts, always use discernment and read the Bible daily, as my Pastor Art Aragon always says, we need to get in the word daily, and not only get onto the word but live the word!!! This book is motivational more then religious, however there are many scriptures in the book, just remember you should also look up the scriptures in the Bible for yourself and make sure that they are NOT taken out of context. I was raised in the Calvary Chapels, and later in life decided I wanted a more charasmatic experience in my life, and belive me the Holy Spirit is stil lworking miricles everyday. I too ka lot of good things away from this book, especially positive thinking from the word of God.

This book is full of scripture that teaches how to stay positive & succeed in life.
Mr Capps uses the old King James version when he quotes a verse but always give the reference so the reader can look it up in a modern version for clarification.
Mr Capps explains how to apply these verses to life situations today.
I highly recommend this book.

Ivan Castro is a graphic designer based in Barcelona, Spain, specializing in calligraphy, lettering, and typography. His work involves everything from advertising to editorial, packaging, and logo design, from big companies to gig posters. Even though he claims to have no specific style, one could say that he has a strong respect for history and popular culture. He has been working in the field for 15 years, and teaching calligraphy and lettering for 10 years in the main design schools of Barcelona. He travels, giving workshops and lectures at design festivals and conferences. His clients included Bau Design College of Barcelona, Born Losers, Congreso Internacional de Tipografía, Iconographic Magazine, Korero Press, Lee Productions, Little Victor, Los Tiki Phantoms, and El Toro Records. My new favorite. Comprehensive, fun-to-read, in-depth lettering guide.

Wherever you are in your lettering journey, this book will teach you. Unless you know everything and therefore aren't considering buying it in the first place. There are those.

I've studied and read many books and online tutorials and took Sean McCabe's Learn Lettering course, but this (aside from the business aspects of that course) is the best resource I've found. You'll learn to write different scripts, how to draw letters and then some heavy duty information on how to use that knowledge to design custom type. There's some history (which he manages to make interesting) of type to help you understand WHY different scripts are what they are.

As a calligrapher, the most helpful part for me was learning to morph my calligraphy into custom type. That was an eye-opener.

Reading the book is a little like having a conversation; Castro is warm and funny and not stiff and dry like many books on this and similar subjects. He explains the "why" many things that I knew to be true but hadn't questioned. He's just really really good at explaining stuff. Lots of aha! moments for me.

Surpasses my already-high expectations

My hopes for this book were already high, and WOW! This book is incredible. This is a thorough, thoughtful, and structured introduction to custom lettering. Castro walks you through some important fundamentals, helping you understand of letter forms, develop a useful sense of aesthetics, and shows you how to bring it together into actual execution. There is a lot of care and detail in this book, but it's also very easy to follow and understand; it's evident that Castro is an experienced teacher. He's put a lot of effort into setting the reader up for success. I cannot wait to dig into this, I feel like I'm going to be building some real knowledge and skills, and having a lot of fun doing it!

Good book, but the binding sucks!

The content of the book is good. Lots of good quality photos from many different genres and artists. Nothing to really fault with the content...it's a thick book. The hard part is that for the money spent and the quality of the content, the binding really sucks. I mean really sucks. I literally flipped through the book from front to back once and the binding began to separate. It looks like the glue holding the binding to the pages is too brittle and it splits and cracks away, leaving the pages unsupported. Now when I flip through the book again, I can see the pages separating from each other. makes me wonder how many more readings I will get out of this before the whole thing falls apart. It's a shame to that something as basic as book bindery could have such a negative effect on an otherwise good book of tattoo art. Buyer beware!

Good content, terrible binding.

This book contains 72 artists in all spread over 447 pages. Each artist has one page describing how they got started in tattooing/why they got interested/personal background, and then a few pages showing examples from their portfolio. Each portfolio shows pictures of tattoos ranging from full body to small tattoos. All pictures are on real people and are shown on a black background. There is a wide range of tattoo styles shown in the book, from cartoon-y to very realistic portrayals. At the back there is a list of their respective websites so you can check out more of their stuff. The content of the book IS quite interesting and I would buy from this company again if there is more content like this.

However, the binding is terrible. I flicked through the pages (carefully!) over the course of two nights when I first received it. That next morning when I went to move the book, the pages felt bottom heavy, and that was because the binding is basically gone. The pages are now stuck together very flimsily and I have to be VERY gentle with it in order for it to stay together. The binding looks like very basic glue, so no wonder. I wish it was bound better, because I really do like the content.

A Quantity of Quality!

The Mammoth Book of Tattoos is a stunning collection of artwork from a conglomerate of select tattoo masters of this generation. Most of the artwork featured in this book is in the styles of modern and Japanese tattoo art, so the variety is slightly limited, but all the photographs are in full color and dazzling quality which really draws you into the depth and detail of each tattoo.

Very little information is offered on the art of tattooing and the artists themselves, but the pictures speak volumes and offer a story that is, perhaps, not possible in the form of the written word. I have absolutely no negative comments about this book. Of all the tattoo-related literature I have collected thus far, The Mammoth Book of Tattoos is by far my favorite to look at again and again.

The best harmony book I've ever read

While i can't say i've read everything on the subject, far from it, i have read Schenker's and Hindemith's books on harmony, Forte's book and a number of others commonly found in University libraries. (My BA is in Music Theory & Composition - fyi) I've found that many of these authors are genuinely interesting and insightful (Schenker in particular, much to my own surprise) however none come close to Mathieu's book in terms of illuminating the essence of the modal/tonal universe for me. Beginning with the actual physics of sound, Matheiu's book builds a theoretical framework like no other, with fewer assumptions and on a more solid footing than anyone else i am aware of. More excitingly, he has helped me to expand greatly the harmonic universe within my own compositions.

As one who has been involved all his life in the field of music (40+ years), i can say that this is the most important book i know for anyone interested in music theory, improvisation and composition.

Simply amazing - a real "ear-opener"!

What a great book! This should perhaps be the very first required reading for any music education. Mathieu first steps back from our usual musical assumptions and examines how sound works. The physics of sound is integral to our experience of it and western music uses a tuning system which is arbitrary (if advantageous in many ways). This is the book that answers so many questions I couldn't even identify - Why does music 'work' the way it does? How do overtones work and what implications do they have for music as a whole? Why does a minor third sound 'sad' and a major third 'happy' (is it all cultural conditioning)? Mathieu definitely addresses the spiritual side of all this, of sound and music and intervals, but never presumes to have answers to such questions. I've only explored a part of the book - it goes on to look at so many facets of the structure and possible organizations of sound and music, really advanced theory. Oh, and throughout, exercises are given, singing the pure intervals at hand, for instance, which serve to hone the ear and the voice and to make all of this sink in to where it counts. Anyone interested in music and theory should check this one out, a definite classic!

You Take The Good, You Take The Bad, You Take Them Both . . . .

Written with her youngest son, actress Charlotte Rae tells her life story from her Jewish childhood in Milwaukee to her current life as a 89-year-old. There are lots of interesting stories about the plays, TV shows and movies she did, with lots of names of her fellow actors and how she felt about them. While the cover of the book shows The Facts Of Life: The Complete Series cast, only a small part of the book is about that show, because only a small part of her life was spent as Mrs. Garrett. (Not that people don't still see her as Mrs. Garrett, and get all excited when they do see her! :) Ms. Rae has been on television for over 60 years.

Along with countless stories about her acting career, she also is not shy about talking about her personal life, including dealing with a drinking problem; dealing with a husband who made a startling confession one night; and dealing with her oldest son's autism, during a time period when the majority of people had never even heard the word "autistic". The actress tells how she was so relieved and happy when a specialist finally diagnosed her son as autistic, because she thought he said her son was different because he was "artistic". The doctor had to write the word down on a piece of paper to help her understand what he was saying. What he was saying broke her heart, too, but Ms. Rae is not one to succumb to self-pity or stupor. Well, yes, she did drink a lot during many years of her life, but she overcame her drinking problem with the help of AA. Charlotte Rae has always overcome adversity one way or another. She's dedicated, she's happy, she's positive, she's thankful.
